The World Needs More Teachers Like Abby


Working with Abby this year has been such a blessing. I appreciate many things about her, but her optimism is what really shines. She believes in the good, the just, and the kind. 

Happy Teacher Appreciation week, Abby. We love you.

Lesson Plans: April 15 - 19 Our Rain Garden

One of our big projects this spring is the installation of a rain garden in our playground. The design and inspiration came from someone in our parent community (I bet you can guess who), and the installation will come from all the children and teachers. In preparation for all of this, we will need to see some rain gardens in action. On Wednesday, we will head to West Park on Chapin Street. Click HERE to see all of the water features and plants we may see! On Wednesday, like all field trip days, we will meet at the location at 10:00a.m. Once we are done exploring the park, we'll find a nice spot to picnic. There is NO red parent snack this day - all families will bring their own picnic. The story Abby will read on Monday will introduce the topic. There is a newly published book that is just perfect!  On Friday, we will plant some flowers and plants that do well in rain gardens. Be sure to bring your gardening gloves, little ones!

Spring Break - Time to Collect Signs of Spring!

I'm a collector. In the past I've collected things like pie birds, salt and pepper shakers, dishes, barware, certain types of books (travel, poetry, cookbooks, particular authors), wool to felt with and knit with - and, at one crazy time - cats. Now I'm down to one cat, and much less of everything else too.  However, one thing I will ALWAYS collect and cherish is the beauty of nature. Over the years, I've come to own several vintage cabinets that I display tiny finds of my nature walks. I call them my cabinets of curiosities. Here are a few examples: Over Spring Break, we would like you and your child to go on nature walks and look for tiny signs of Spring. Tiny tree buds, green grass, the first flowers bravely peeking, worms, nesting materials that a bird may use - you get the idea. Bring all items to school after break and we will fill our "cabinets of curiosities"  in the classroom!

Celebration Week - Our Last Full Week of School

  Our last full week of school will be May 13 - 17, with a short Graduation Week to follow. We can't believe the year has gone so quickly! We decided to make our final week of school full of celebratory days. Here is the calendar of events for this week: MONDAY - PJ and Waffle Day - Please wear PJs to school and bring a stuffie if you wish! It will be a cozy day. WEDNESDAY - Smoothie Day - Please bring in your favorite fruit to add to your green smoothie! It is also Ariela's birthday today, so we will be circling the sun for this little sweetie. FRIDAY - Under the Sea Day - We will be whipping up a special treat along with other surprises! We will be celebrating Emmett's birthday today - the big 0-5!
